Hi all today we will be discussing the UI of Russian social Network Vkontakte.ru
it was often called a successful clone of Facebook
the site claims
VK (Originally VKontakte) is the most visited resource on the Russian Internet (LiveInternet).
- Over 190 million users are registered on the site.
- Over 42 000 000 visitors log on to the site every day (LiveInternet).
- Around 2 500 000 000 pages are opened daily (LiveInternet).
- Around 67% of visitors live in Russia (LiveInternet).
- 25% of them are from Moscow, and 13% are from Saint Petersburg (LiveInternet).
- More than 70% of users are over 25 years old (comScore).
This site was Launched September 2006 and now it has and has a Alexa rank of 34
Registration Open to everyone with a cell phone number
V Kontákte means "In Contact" or "In Touch".
dominating colors in the pallet are
#C0CAD5 (close to silver)

Though this pallets is not refreshing look after seeing other social network but the colors never puts you off
on its landing page simple interaction designs are engineered to keep user track on what text box they are using currently hi lighted by a contrast color
- and a mild mouse over interaction for the sign up button
- Clean sign up gets information section in which is invisible unless you fill one text box after which another text box appears,(this helps in making the users comfortable to make him fell this a small sin up section )
after the sign up you get a code in your mobile, after the verification you can proceed on profile updation
- Profile page lands up completely using mild colors except on header gradient
its just my personal opinion that there the overall widgit is a bit narrow compare
to other social networks , this being a non responsive
some free white space is spent for breathing between left sidebar
and profile contents (140 px * 180 px)
loading animation is compat traditional
search option is cristal without any confusion
Good feature in scroll navigation is pop up stickies
As you scroll down in search for people, communities groups or Photos/ videos
after a few scrolls a pop up stickies shows up new message / notifications
and also a go up button
when scrolling down in a search suppose in 13th community go up button immediately lets you on top
and down arrow takes you to the pace where you wear (13 community)
This white pop is distinguished by drop shadow
Right side bar gets fixed when you scroll to earth
- music playlist is another one good feature in which you cloud listen while socialising same time ,
- interface is clearly highlighting that a music is being played must pop up comes with a bit low opacity black pop up with white text
"broadcast name of music i am listening "lets yourself know which music you are listening and there is immediate pause play button for music
on photos viewing light box has been used which has 80 % blacked out its background
like button on photos are totally invisible at top it is a low opacity heart symbol with a semi transparent rounded rectangle and mouse over like button at bottom lights up along with how much ppl
liked so far in its own fashion of transparent black also with it share with friends option is available
Frends recomendatins and community page are on top just below status bar to get us noticed time to time
similar to that of Fb / twitter it has unlimited scrolling so that you can scroll to last page
There is a plus sign all the left widget which gives you update on all the notifications
if you profile is not complete comic guides start to roll out guiding on the process
communities joined are indicated by a tick mark
add video section also has a module box distinguishing from the layout
overall VK.com is gr88 to people without introduction or no connection of FB or twitter for others its another social network to connect
